On March 6, 2024, Nikki Haley dropped out of the Republican presidential primary race, solidifying Donald Trump as the party's nominee for the 3rd time in as many presidential elections. That date should forever be remembered as the day the Republican party officially died. For all intents and purposes, it is now the party of Trump, and he is making full use of their financial resources now to pay his personal legal bills and whatever else he deems necessary.

That all happened before mid-week, and before the 2024 State of the Union message from Joe Biden. This year's state of the union was filled with fireworks and Biden taking a hard stand against everything Trump has pushed for, and everything he's pushed against. From a rebuke of the insurrection of January 6, 2021 to calling out Trump for blocking a much needed bill that would go a long way toward fixing the problems we've seen on the southern border, Biden didn't hold back. But as fiery as the state of the union speech was, the part that really threw me off was the Republican rebuttal to it.

Katie Britt, Republican senator from Alabama, sat in her kitchen and scolded all those who would dare oppose her party. I don't often outright make fun of these kinds of things, but she really did sound like she was ramping up to ask to speak to the manager. My oldest daughter, who stayed up to watch with me since she's voting for the first time this year, said that senator Britt reminded her of Delores Umbridge. I couldn't really disagree, and now I can't get that image out of my head.

Moving forward, I think I'm going to aim to do these political videos every Monday, recapping the prior week and talking about things that are important to me. Other videos will be focused on other interests, giving me a chance to grow a bit personally and giving a set place for the political stuff so it doesn't get too overwhelming.
