The American housing crisis isn’t just about homelessness anymore. It’s hitting working and middle-class families who did everything they were told to do and still can’t afford a home.
I’m a former homebuilder (with my husband as his trad wife assistant), a longtime renter, and a mom watching my own adult kids with good jobs get priced out of homeownership.
In this video, I break down what happened to the American starter home, why builders are incentivized to build expensive houses, how housing became an investment vehicle, and why homeownership keeps moving further out of reach.
This isn’t an avocado-toast problem. The economics of housing changed. And if we want a functioning middle class, we need to start building homes ordinary working people can actually afford.
