Mannequins aren't the only inanimate, human-shaped objects that Peter Livingstone photographs. In his 'Dead Portrait Society' series, he shoots portraits of the statues in museums. "The genesis for the Dead Portrait Society series was a visit to The Louvre in Paris. In one of the immense rooms there was some beautiful natural light falling across a collection of busts," he says. "I loved the way this natural portraiture lighting brought some life to these stone sculptures and perhaps bringing back to life the subject." By shooting the portraits of these eminent figures (quite a few of whom lived way before the invention of photography), Peter has immortalized a previous act of immortalization. Undoubtedly, his subjects would not have objected to the increase in exposure.
