160 years ago today, on March 12th 1862, George McClellan made his headquarters at Fairfax Court House, which had been occupied by the rebels just days before. But the Army of the Potomac's long-overdue advance was not the triumph McClellan hoped it might be. Today would instead prove to be a national embarrassment for Federal forces in northern Virginia.
