I think i may have done the right thing and got this train stopped late evening on 6th Sept 2001. I think no one else maybe would have spotted that this train was on fire being late evening . Though I think cars or lorry’s could have seen the train from the A9 road making sparks with dragging breaks .
Through the pass of Drumochter.
The issue with this train may have caused a derailment with lives lost if i had not spotted it , and had the train not been stopped. In the few pictures I took you can clearly see the front bogies with wheel brake blocks glowing red hot.
Early on in my photography years , my camera was on a tripod hear at Blair Athol . A dark sky area, I have also captured the stars in the background.
Rail privatisation, was a total disaster for Britain, and this may have been one the the very first railway disasters if I have not got this train stopped. Many rail disasters later and many year on year passenger fares increases . Many governments later , and many rail companies later the railway system is starting to be re nationalised. Not that improvements on the railway will be made overnight. I think that re nationalisation is a step forward. The railway industry should not have been nationalised in the first place .
May mistake with research the locomotive was 47784 “Condover Hall”. Scrapped in 2007.
