I am not a member of Canadian First Nations or indigenous groups. And so I cannot even begin to offer the full context of this topic. My intent with this video is just to provide a brief introduction to two important things -
1. the residential school system, perhaps the darkest chapter of Canadian history
and
2. The racism which continues to this day against indigenous Canadians
My hope is that this video will inspire some viewers to learn more about these topics on their own. And of course, for visitors to Canada to have a bit more context of this deep trauma at the core of our history.
Ad revenue earned from this video will be donated to the Native Friendship Centre of Montreal. A link is provided below, for anyone who wants to learn more or consider donating as well.
I've also included a link to the 94 Calls to Action reached by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. This will quickly shut down anyone who tries to say "but what do they actually want?" which is a common argument against social movements. In this case the goals are clearly defined and publicly available for those who wish to learn more.
