On this episode of the CrossFit Show, Nick Wells joins the conversation. Wells found CrossFit while in prison, facing a 48-year sentence after succumbing to Colorado’s habitual offender law for nonviolent crimes. Realizing his health was suffering while incarcerated, Wells began working out with another inmate, eventually evolving into a group and the first-ever in-prison CrossFit gym, Redemption Road CrossFit.

After receiving clemency from the Colorado Governor — which was in large part initiated by members of the CrossFit community — Wells focused his efforts on helping Redemption Road members reintegrate into society. The nonprofit makes deals with local CrossFit gyms to purchase memberships and punch passes to give to released prisoners. It also utilizes its network of affiliate owners to look for open positions at CrossFit gyms to help them find jobs. Tune in to hear Wells' incredible story of resilience, rehabilitation, and how he pays it forward every day.
