This was a neat little feature that we found out by mistake when we were testing The Cross Plane with the OUYA.

But basically what's happening here is The Cross Plane is powering the OUYA from its internal battery supply. Then, using the HDMI transmitter for our Cross Plane system that is plugged into the back of the OUYA, we took a short USB to Mini USB cable, plugged it into the 5V USB port on the back of the OUYA and powered the transmitter that way. The transmitter then sends the signal back to The Cross Plane!
To be clear, The Cross Plane is a fully wireless system and the only reason there is a wire going from The Cross Plane to the OUYA is to power it. Basically this just makes it portable!
As for the controller, The Cross Plane in this instance is using a PS3 controller pak to control the OUYA, but does have a OUYA specific controller in development.
