In which I pretend to know quite a bit about the entertainment industry by discussing how titles of shows affect the reception.
One thing I did not get the chance to talk about above is how they can deal with their crappy past decisions. For example, Cougar Town actually makes fun of the title in the title card of every episode. When it got picked up by TBS, they decided to advertise it by making fun of the title i.e. "We've been searching for s show with a terrible name." Seeing as the show is still running, despite already being canceled once, I'd say the 'laughing at ourself' mantra is working.
