The official amount of cash you get to take with you when you die is exactly zero. Not “a little,” not “whatever fits in the coffin,” not “whatever your heirs forgot to fight over.” Zero. The cosmic cashier checks your pockets, shakes the piggy bank of your soul, and finds nothing but lint and a few expired ambitions. The entire human economy—banks, bonuses, hedge funds, offshore accounts—is a giant multiplayer game where everyone hoards points that vanish the moment the server kicks them out. 💸

Humanity nevertheless behaves as if the afterlife has a VIP lounge that accepts credit cards. People claw their way through life stacking numbers in spreadsheets, convinced the scoreboard means something permanent. If money truly translated into existential value, billionaires would be buried in armored Brinks trucks instead of decorative boxes with satin pillows. But death is the great auditor, and it runs a brutally simple ledger: assets—zero, liabilities—your unfinished business and the weird things you said on the internet. ☠️

There’s a neat logical loop in the madness. If wealth promises security, and security promises control, and control promises a kind of immortality, then the chase for money becomes a ritual against the terror of disappearing. But the chain collapses the second the body does. The causal triad snaps: no life, no ownership; no ownership, no wealth; no wealth, no grand illusion of permanence. The market crashes instantly and permanently, and every portfolio becomes a philosophical joke.

So the answer remains stubbornly boring and devastating: you take nothing. Not the cash, not the house, not the prestige, not even the fancy watch you bought to remind yourself that time mattered. The only things that survive are the ripples you left in other people’s heads and the stories told about you—usually at a slightly awkward gathering with potato salad. In the end, the richest and the poorest travelers depart with the same luggage: absolutely none. 🪦
