This lighting collection is my way of paying tribute to the beauty of the ocean. These lamps are meant to capture the hypnotic feeling of peering out into our seas and admiring aquatic life. In an effort to reduce waste and curb carbon emissions, all lamps are 3D printed in the USA, using processes that allow for recycling of any waste material in the manufacturing process.
What you're actually seeing in these designs is a moment frozen in time. Using computational design algorithms that mimic growth patterns found in nature, each light is a freeze-frame of a 3D animation, which is then 3D printed. I wanted to create something that looked otherworldly. I knew that the only way to achieve this was to do something that was a radical departure from traditional industrial design processes and tools.
The ocean is effectively infinite in its size, scope, and beauty, but not in its capacity to weather humanity’s destructive habits. For that reason, 50% of all profits from The Coral Lighting Collection go to Coral Reef Conservation Funds.
