In late 2023, DiMarzio contacted me asking if I would be interested in checking out some new hot Tron-style pickups. Of course, I said yes! These PAF'Trons really brought this Fender Cabronita Telecaster to life. They sound big, rich, and full of Tron 'jangle'. They also allow your guitar to sustain a little more thanks to the smaller magnet size compared to a traditional tron pickup which reduces string pull. IMPORTANT CUSTOMER INFO FROM DIMARZIO//:
1. The magnet size in the PAF®’Tron is reduced, and similar to that of a traditional PAF®. Filtertrons typically have big magnets that are roughly twice the size of a PAF® magnet. This can cause the magnets to pull on the strings. A characteristic of PAF’s that is crucial to their sound is that they don’t have intense string pull, so the way that the strings interact with the magnets is musical. This was one of our main focuses with these pickups.
2. The PAF®’Tron pickups are not based on one specific PAF® in our lineup. We ended up with a unique PAF® voicing after getting through our technical goals and chose to refine that sound rather than pursue the specific sound of any of our other PAFs.
3. The bridge pickup is overwound to increase output / balance it with the neck pickup.
4. All of our filtertron pickups are available with gold or nickel/chrome covers and hardware, and cream or black inserts.
5. All of our filtertron pickups use our quick-connect cables, so they can be swapped in and out easily.
As an aside, I’d recommend checking out the Super Distor’Tron bridge with the PAF’Tron neck. It’s a very fun combo too.

By duplicating the traditionally weak magnetic field of PAF pickups, the strings vibrate longer and deliver an articulate attack and output. We wind one coil at a time on our computer-controlled winding machines, guaranteeing correct layering of the custom-coated 42-gauge wire to achieve the exact frequency response we want.
The assembled pickups are then dipped in a wax formula, eliminating squeal and microphonics when played at high volume.
