Will we get to see our favorite characters again?
You will. You may not like what happens to them sometimes, because I have to admit, I gave them quite a task to live through.
I know you can't choose favorite, as that wouldn't be fair, is the next question, but was there any character that you were particularly excited to be back writing again?
Yes. And that for sure was the Black Prince. And is the Black Prince. It will always be the Black Prince.
The last book in the Ink Heart trilogy, Ink Death, was published in England back in 2008.
What was it that made you want to come back to the Inkheart world after 16 years?
As I mentioned before, yes, it was the Black Prince, and for sure, it was also Dustfinger. But I think the main inspiration was actually my question in my head - whispering, are images more powerful or words, Cornelia?
Does Inkworld react to images the same way? Do they have the same power?
Do you think someone could read and enjoy this book without having to have read the Inkheart series first?
I very much hope so. I did write it as a story of its own and as it has different heroes in a way from the other stories, I think it works without knowing about them.
But let's put it this way, it will add a bit of pleasure if you know where the characters come from.
Maybe read at least a summary.
When you were growing up, what were your favorite books and do you think they influenced what you write now?
First of all, of course I think every book we read, every book we don't like and like and love, each of them influences us in some way.
When you started writing books, I'm sure you had no idea how much everybody would like what you write. Do you have any advice for young people who might want to become a writer someday too?
Yes, always have a notebook. And always have a pen right here. Because it may happen that a very important thought or idea comes to you at a place where you have no idea how to catch it and hold it. And I tell you, ideas get lost, they disappear. They have a way to do that.
If you ever come to Tuscany, give us a visit and come here and may we can talk about writing. I have a big competition in Germany running for writers between 15 and 17. And I just bought a second farm here in Tuscany that will be open to the public and hopefully find many of you.
And finally, seventh question. Do you think this is the final time you come back to writing in the Inkheart world? Or is there a chance you have more on the horizon?
Well, you should ask that to the story, because they always surprised me.
