I’m testing out the idea that value (how light or dark something is) is more important than color when it comes to painting. To do that, I’m going to simulate being colorblind using my RGB studio light, which removes all the color, so I’m left just focusing on the values. I’m painting with a box of jelly gouaches—these bright, multi-colored paints—and seeing if a painting can still look good when the colors are random, as long as the values are right. I’ll also talk a bit about color theory along the way and push the idea to see how far I can go with it.
