Johnny was born to a family that fled from the East,
His father was Luke, his mother was Helen, seeking peace.
They left their homeland, chased, searching for a better day,
But the mines of the West were where they had to stay.
(Verse 2)
Johnny grew up with four siblings by his side,
But the mines took his father when he was twenty-five.
His mother lost many children, pain heavy in her soul,
And losing a brother young took a lifelong toll.
(Chorus)
Oh, Johnny the Miner, worked the coal all his life,
With hands stained black, but a heart full of light.
He gave it all for his family, through joy and through pain,
Johnny the Coalminer, he lived through the rain.

He married Anastasia, built a family so bright,
With Paul, Goldie, Sophia, and Luke, they were his light.
He raised them as best as he could in the Land of the Coal,
Working the mines in the West, that was his goal.
