The Classic 60/40 Investing Strategy (The Most Balanced Investing Strategy?):
When it comes to asset allocation the general idea is to spread your investments out across different types of assets. That way if one of them goes down you'll hopefully have another one that went up to balance out the losses and make for a smoother investing ride.
We saw how the permanent portfolio did that very well (though it did sacrifice some returns over the long haul to do it). We also saw how the all-stock strategy basically threw that all out the window. The classic 60/40 strategy seeks to find a middle ground between the two, balancing risk and reward.
