Diving into the obscure PS1 depths for this one! The crime is that I knew about The City of Lost Children video game _before_ I even knew about the film, but considering I spend most of my waking hours playing games, that probably tracks. This past year I finally watched the movie and was equal parts amazed, disturbed, and very confused by Ron Perlman delivering French phonetically while being a lovable strongman, feral little street kids, brains in goo, a mad scientist, and cursed Santa. Naturally, I HAD to see what the game adaptation was doing. I was thrilled at first to play as Miette, and the graphics, cover art, manual, and grimy PS1 streets had me fully invested in the bizarre atmosphere. And then the puzzles started doing my head in, the logic got mean, and I have never accepted my need for a guide faster in my life (: I'm glad I experienced it in the end because I love digging into movie-to-game adaptations and seeing how developers tried to turn something so cinematic into something playable. The search for a truly good one continues, but this was a strange artifact worth pulling from the forgotten depths. Let me know what yall thought and what your favorite movie turned video game is!
