Pastor Jeremiah Nortier continues our study through Chapter 26, “Of the Church,” in the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith. In this third lesson of four, we will examine paragraphs 9–14 and consider how Christ exercises his authority and provides for the order, ministry, discipline, and fellowship of his churches.
This lesson will address:
• Christ’s appointment of elders and deacons through the recognition and calling of the local congregation• The church’s responsibility to honor and financially support faithful pastors• The exercise of preaching gifts by qualified men who are approved by the church• The responsibility of every believer to join and submit to the oversight of a local church• Christ’s process for resolving offenses and exercising biblical discipline• The duty of local churches to pray for, assist, and maintain fellowship with one another
