Most Christians don’t realize that the Christmas tree comes from pagan worship condemned by YHWH. Sacred trees were called Asherim also rendered groves in the KJV. The word Asherah can refer to the female deity, her image or literally the sacred trees associated with her. These trees would be decorated. Scripture repeatedly warns against high places, sacred trees, and imitating heathen customs.
Judges 2:13 – Israel forsook YHWH and worshipped Baal and Ashtoroth, the female deity linked to Ishtar (Easter) and Astarte.
Judges 3:7 & 1 Kings 14:23 – Pagan worship under evergreen trees called abominations.
Jeremiah 10:1-4 (KJV) – YHWH explicitly warns: “Learn not the way of the heathen… for one cutteth a tree out of the forest… They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.”
Decorating trees in homes is a direct continuation of pagan customs that Scripture condemns. Christians unknowingly honor these traditions every year.
