Developed in the 1970s, the Smith & Wesson Model 73 C-Frame was an experimental six-shot .38 Special revolver built on a frame size comparable to the J-Frame.
Unlike a simple frame enlargement, the C-Frame was a ground-up design, featuring a completely unique action, including an offset cylinder stop notch, one-of-a-kind internal lockwork, and a non-traditional front lockup system integrated into the ejector rod assembly, making it unlike any other Smith & Wesson revolver ever built. Just 10 of the original 5,000 units produced are known to remain.
