There are more people in the world than ever before, and enough food is grown on the planet to feed all of them. But problems with our food systems are preventing this.

Combined with the pressures that climate change is placing on the land- and water-based ecosystems we depend on for food, these flaws in our systems mean that many still do not have access to affordable, nutritious food.

Our Centre of Research Excellence in Intelligent and Sustainable Productive Systems (CRISPS) is taking a whole-systems approach to tackle the global challenge of feeding everyone.

Our vision is that, through research and the integration of new technology, we can provide real-world solutions that support sustainable aquaculture, agriculture and the natural environment.

We work across disciplinary boundaries with our partners in industry, academia and communities around the world to build projects that have direct social benefits, such as increasing crop resilience, improving plants’ nutritional quality, and protecting and creating environments that yield healthy and abundant livestock.

Watch Dr Jennifer Rowntree, Co-Director of CRISPS, explain more about how the Centre is addressing the challenge of sustainably feeding the global population.
