In this video I explain the case against summer break. Summer break is a time where income inequality creates a dramatic achievement gap. Thus, the richest students have a tremendous advantage under a system with a summer break and the poorest students have a tremendous disadvantage.
We could abolish summer, but that's a little radical. Instead, we could better fund summer learning programs specifically for disadvantaged students. These programs have been shown to be effective and yet are at risk of being defunded.
