With three Japanese carriers, the Akagi, Kaga and Sōryū, in flames, the tide of battle seemed to favor the U.S. Navy—but the Battle of Midway was far from over. As the damaged Hiryū launched a desperate counterstrike, the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown became the primary target. Repeated bomb and torpedo runs followed, with the crew of USS Yorktown fighting for survival.
