This is another attempt at creating a song using Garageband app - the guitar and piano can sound quite generic so I may record it properly with Sebastian at some point, but he’s on a break and I have other songs rattling around.
This is a love song but the inspiration for this song came from a blog I read about a week ago. I submitted a few Christmas songs to Radio Christmas which is based in Amersham, Bucks-and which they kindly played. The show broadcasts also from Guatemala, where the founder of the charity Street Kids Direct lives. Duncan did live broadcasts each day throughout December in the wee small hours of the morning each day from there and spoke often about the work they do on the ground to help street kids, providing education, running bakeries where kids learn a skill and many other things. And he wrote a blog that really touched me. In it he told how kids would often come in just to say hello to the volunteers out there and often these kids were anxious and some would ask for a hug. But one child came along and they weren’t quite sure what she wanted until he pointed at another child getting a hug and she simply said she wanted one of those- she didn’t know what hugs were or what they were called, she just knew he wanted one, and I just thought that was the saddest thing I’d heard in a long time. I had to write a song about that- it will make more sense if you’ve read this far.
