'Its a sad day, a day of some violence in Calais as the refugee camp known as the jungle is under eviction. We are coming into an election year in France and the eviction of the camp is an electoralist stunt by President Hollande to gain votes from the right. The people who will pay are those fleeing war and devastation.'
Gary Daly recently returned from the Calais refugee camp (now under eviction) speaks at last nights protest at the French embassy in Dublin.
Last nights protest also launched #NotOnOurWatch - a call for the Irish government to relocate 200 children from Calais to Ireland. There were about 1100 unaccompanied minors at the camp in total.
