The takeaway; There is no catchall methodology for dealing with bullies. If fighting back leads to triumph, fighting back is the right thing to do. If fighting back leads to the retribution seeker's hospitalization at the hands of the bully, well then fighting back is obviously the wrong way to go about it. So the question is; how often does the former happen? I think the latter is more frequent, so I'd err on the side of risk-aversion when giving advice to the bullied. I hope I'm wrong on my estimate, but I doubt any stats exist that prove otherwise. Anecdotally, I've seen little-to-no evidence of the "snap and destroy" bullied kid winning out.
But fighting back is more than okay, ethically speaking, m'kay.
