The horrifying true story of Clara Germana Tele (also Clara Germana Cele), a 16-year-old Zulu girl from St. Michael’s Mission in Natal, South Africa, was demonic possession in 1906 became one of the most extreme and widely witnessed exorcism cases in history. According to Father Erasmus Hoerner and Bishop Henri Delalle, Clara reportedly levitated, contorted her body in impossible ways, spoke languages she had never learned, demonstrated supernatural strength, revealed hidden knowledge, and reacted violently to holy objects while remaining unaffected by ordinary ones. Her voice changed, her behaviour turned ferocious, and her condition worsened until even a second girl at the mission became affected.
Scepticism vanished when the Bishop himself witnessed the events, leading to days of intense exorcisms recorded by priests, nuns, and many locals. The entity controlling Clara even spelled out its name and claimed allegiance to Lucifer. Her case remains one of the most disturbing and well-documented examples of alleged demonic possession, echoing other infamous cases throughout history.
