After two defeats for the British in Palestine and Malaya, Joe and I go back to our End of Empire campaign of the British Way, this time in Kenya. The Mau Mau Emergency, also known as the Mau Mau Uprising or the Kenya Emergency, was a complex and violent conflict that took place in British-controlled Kenya from 1952 to 1960. The conflict emerged from longstanding social and political tensions, largely centered around land dispossession, colonial rule, and economic inequality. The Mau Mau, primarily composed of members from the Kikuyu ethnic group, initiated a guerilla war against the British colonial administration and European settlers. This period was marked by atrocities and human rights abuses committed by both the Mau Mau insurgents and British security forces, including mass detentions, torture, and forced labor. The official end of the Emergency in 1960 set the stage for Kenyan independence, which came in 1963.

The British Way is a collection of four lightweight counterinsurgency wargames, each examining a different "emergency" or conflict from 1945 to 1960. This was a time when Britain was negotiating its withdrawal from its empire, managing various counterinsurgency operations along the way. This game pack delves into the strategies the British employed against a variety of adversaries, including the communist guerillas in Malaya, nationalists in Kenya, as well as covert terrorist groups in Palestine and Cyprus.
