Had the immense pleasure of recording @craighuxley and his @blasterbeam instrument for my music for Star Trek Online @trekonlinegame . The release I am working on will involve the V’GER so a look back to Star Trek The Motion Picture was needed. From my research I reached out to Craig who was happy to play his mind bending instrument on my score. Besides being an amazing musician on the Blaster Beam Craig performed on his own synthesizer rig for many of Jerry Goldsmith’s feature film scores. I had the pleasure to study under Jerry at USC in the 90’s and learned so much. To come full circle like this and to get an opportunity to be inspired by Jerry’s music and the sound of V’GER has been really amazing. This clip highlights the raw and awesome sound of the Blaster Beam at Craig’s studio, then the same lick mixed and soloed in my studio and finally the full mix. It’ll be releasing the full music later but wanted to share this now!
