Episode Notes:
1. Numbers taken from a few different sources like Wikipedia, VGCHARTZ, Media Create, and NPD.
2. Bayonetta under Nintendo has sold an additional 3 or 4 million across all releases.
3. I found Virtua Fighter numbers as high as 18 million, but I'm fairly certain Sega included downloads in that from online services like Playstation Plus.
4. I was shocked that some Sega franchises like Phantasy Star have moved paltry numbers over the years. I feel any hope of Sega returning to a traditional release of that is long gone.
5. One thing that hurt many of Sega's classic franchises was the fact that the hardware it was on wasn't popular. Games on the Saturn, no matter how good, simply didn't have the installed base to sell big numbers.
6. Sonic's most recent mainline entry, Sonic Frontiers, has moved some 4 million units since its release.
7. Sega allows Atlus to operate mostly on its own so I did not include the sales from its games. Atlus even publishes many of its game related franchises. I know it's still a subsidiary but I wanted to keep it separate here.
8. I also kept separate studios that Sega only acquired in recent years. That's why franchises like Two Point Hospital aren't here. I wanted the games in this video to have either been created by Sega or owned by Sega for a significant time.
