Michael McDowell's Southern Gothic horror masterpiece Blackwater (part 1) is my favorite read that I discovered from Paperbacks from Hell. It is a slow moving creep-fest that is well worth the read! McDowell is also a famous screenwriter, know mainly for Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas
