Pickpocketing HAM members is probably the best method for gathering clue scrolls while making money, and they're really not that much slower than opening gourmet impling jars! You don't need an insanely high thieving level and can get up to 18 easy clue scrolls per hour if you're really efficient and/or lucky. I'd say it's worth it.
