We grew 15 different varieties of onions last year in a big variety trial, and got enough information about the yield and productivity to make an initial selection of which varieties to grow this year in the other gardens. In order to test the storability of all the varieties I needed to wait until a lot of them sprouted or rotted in storage. But it was the feedback from the taste testing that was most interesting, and has caused me to reevaluate the my approach to growing onions.
