Appenzell and the areas around it have stolen a piece of our hearts. We ended our time there with a final big hike - Hoher Kasten to Fählensee. A magnificent hike along the ridge line with panoramic views on both sides. The beauty about hiking in Switzerland is that you'll always find a mountain inn no matter where you go! The Berggasthaus Staubern is the perfect stop along the way for a quick snack and of course - beer! The finale of the ridge line before you make the descent down to Fählensee is Saxerlücke - it is just jaw dropping beautiful! We made our way down to the lake and across to our final spot for the evening - Fählenalp - a family run diary farm and Matratzenlager, located at the far end of the lake. This place was truly magical!
