In 1991, Fox sold tickets to the third Alien movie. There was no script. There was a release date, and that was all anybody cared about.
They needed someone who couldn't fight back. A 28 year old kid who had never directed a feature and would be too scared to say no.
They hired David Fincher.
Nine rewrites while the cameras rolled. Seventy-six takes for seven frames of film. A director praying a fire would burn his own movie to the ground.
The most controlling filmmaker of his generation was born on the one set where he had no control.
