THE BEEF PEOPLE were:
--Brian Childers (RIP): lead vocals. Paper cutter on "Industrial Jelly."
--Michael W. Dean: guitar. Lead vocal on "kicked out", bg vocals, keyboards on "Industrial Jelly" and "Beef Outro."
--Willy MacLean: Bass, bg vocals.
--Jack Massey: Drums, bg vocals.

WHY THIS IS THE PERFECT HARDCORE RECORD:
–You’ve never heard of it.
–We played 9 shows, then broke up.
–We were together less than one year.
–It was recorded at Inner Ear Studio in 1985, engineered by Don Zientara.
–Our two EPs were recorded and mixed the same day, in 9 hours, for 400 bucks, including tape and engineer.
–We put out two records, both EPs, but one came out years later after the singer died. And that second one came out as in Insert in Artcore fanzine.
–We never did a CD, only vinyl. Broke up a year before CDs existed.
–We were young pups. I was 21, the old guy in the group. The rest of them were 17 and 18.
–I was too poor to have my own gear. The amp I’m playing through at the show on the EP cover is borrowed from the headliner band, The Asexuals.
–Everyone in the Beef People sang backup.
–The lead singer was Straight Edge, but is now dead from liver failure from alcoholism. (Too soon? Shit. I guarantee he would have thought that was funny. And it’s true.)
--After the Beef People, but before the singer died, he sang in School of Violence, and in Crawlpappy.

All songs written by The Beef People. Except "Fire" by Jimi.
And I think the RHCP covered our version, not Jimi's version.

Historical note: Rob Cunningham played guitar before he got kicked out of Blue Ridge High School, the boarding school that he, Brian, Willy, and Jack attended during the time the Beef People existed. He helped write some of the songs. I (Michael W. Dean) got kicked out of a different boarding school, The Church Farm School. I played guitar in the Beef People, but since I'd been kicked out, I sang lead the song "Kicked Out", about Rob Buckingham.

Note: We were the Beef People from Charlottesville, VA. Not the fake band with the same name that started later in South Carolina or something. Though this was pre-World Wide Web, maybe they came up with it independently. You couldn't Google it back then.
