For centuries, Bedouin tribes survived in one of the harshest environments on Earth: the Arabian Desert. Moving from oasis to oasis, these nomadic communities relied on camels, seasonal migrations, and a deep understanding of the desert ecosystem to stay alive.
This documentary explores the history and transformation of life in the Liwa Oasis in the United Arab Emirates. Through personal testimonies, including those of Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qassimi and local families, we discover how Bedouin culture evolved from a nomadic lifestyle based on hunting and gathering to modern agriculture in the desert.
The film reveals how camels once formed the backbone of Bedouin life, allowing entire tribes to travel across the desert while surviving on limited water and resources. Today, however, most Emiratis have settled in coastal cities, and only a small percentage still live in the country’s interior oases.
With the discovery of underground aquifers and the vision of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the United Arab Emirates, the desert began to change dramatically. Massive agricultural projects transformed Liwa into a flourishing oasis, turning barren sand into palm groves and farms.
From traditional date cultivation to modern irrigation techniques, this story reveals how ancient knowledge and modern innovation reshaped the Arabian Desert.
