The Beautiful Ste. Anne's Catholic Church On Mackinac Island - Our Rainy Day Sanctuary
We were visiting Mackinac Island for the first time, and weren't about to miss exploring Ste. Anne's Catholic Church while we were there. Ste. Anne's is rich in history, with records dating back to 1695. There has been a Catholic presence on Mackinac Island since 1670, when the first Catholic mission on Mackinac Island was established by Father Claude Dablon.
And the Ste. Anne's hasn't alway been located where it is today. At one time, the Catholic mission relocated to the mainland at what is now St. Ignace, and later became part of Fort Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City. When the British moved the fort to Mackinac Island in 1780, Ste. Anne’s was one of the first buildings to come along with it. It was disassembled and moved to its current location on the Island.
It's a beautiful church, inside and out, and worth taking your time to see it's original stained glass windows and classic architecture. Thanks for watching!
