I'm far from being a good Mahjong player, but I do enjoy playing it.
If you want to try it out yourself, then let's go through the very basics of the Japanese variation "Riichi Mahjong". There's a lot to learn, but then again, there's also no need to learn it all at once.
We've all gotta start somewhere, right?
