Marian H | The Ballad of Mulan - Poetry Reading @marianhreads | Uploaded September 2020 | Updated October 2024, 8 hours ago.
Here's an (overlyyyy dramatic) reading of the Ballad of Mulan. This song goes back to 6th-century China and tells the story of Hua Mulan ("magnolia") who volunteers to be conscripted instead of her father. How many differences can you find with the Disney films?
Personally, I do prefer the 1998 Disney plot. I love how it shows the real consequences of Mulan's actions and the tenuous relationship with her captain, Li Shang. It was one of the few childhood films that taught me life and people (and even you) will inevitably disappoint you, but you don't ever give up on your convictions.
Let me know if you've seen the new remake and your thoughts!
