Lisa in Bookland | The Ballad of Lord Edward and Citizen Small Book Review (Spoiler Free) - A New Favourite @lisainbookland | Uploaded March 2023 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
Here is an individual book review of what I think is the best book I’ve read this year so far – The Ballad of Lord Edward and Citizen Small by Neil Jordan. Such a brilliant book based on a true story about an unlikely friendship between Lord Edward Fitzgerald and escaped slave Tony Small, against the background of the American Revolution and the 1798 United Irishman rebellion. A great portrait of Irish society at the end of the 18th century, as well as memorable depictions of the Drury Lane theatre in London. Highly recommended!
OTHER THINGS MENTIONED:
Michael Collins; 1996 film directed by Neil Jordan
