Did you know that the original time machine in the back to the future trilogy was going to be a refrigerator? Great Scott! They decided to car would make a lot more sense and shows the DeLorean because it was one-of-a-kind, controversial, and well, badass. They wanted it to look sleek and believable enough that it actually work as a time machine but also look like Doc Brown built it in his garage and goofy enough to fit Doc Brown's personality. Remember Marty had hit 88 mph in order to time travel, but the factory speedometer only went to 85 mph because the law Jimmy Carter passed to limit speedometers to 85 to discourage speeding. Production had to build a custom speedometer that went to 95 mph for the close up shots. There are a total of seven DeLoreans made. Three versions of the Deloreans were made for the first movie, the A, B and C car. The A car, or the “hero” car, had the most gadgets and gizmos because it got the most screen time. This is a replica of the A car. The B car is almost as nice as the a car, but rigged for special stunt scenes. The C car had parts of its exterior cut away to get cameras inside for interior close-up shots. For Back to the Future 2, they built a light fiberglass version for flying scenes that could hang from a crane or a forklift. For the 3rd movie, they built three more Frankenstein versions. They had two cars that were made to go in the desert scenes, then they built a rail car that was designed for stunts, and then the B car from the previous movies was modified to also be on railroad tracks, but it was sadly exploded by a train at the end of the trilogy. Well that was car #3 from the 31 movie cars in 31 days of March. Follow us you can see what car we're going to pick tomorrow. Oh, and let's all hold hands and pray to the heavens that they make a time machine out of the newly announced DeLorean.
