🏡 Our Historic Preservation Month celebration continues with a look at one of the earliest recipients of the Model Colony Award — the charming Avenue Boarding House!
📜 Designated as Local Landmark No. 9 and a Contributor to the College Park Historic District, this beautifully preserved 2-story residence earned an Award of Merit in 2001 for its thoughtful rehabilitation and deep historic significance.
Originally built at C Street & Euclid Ave., the home was relocated in 1923 by Fred Clapp, a Chaffey High swim instructor, to make way for the Granada Theater. With its Eastlake brackets, decorative cresting, wood siding, and original windows, the home remains a treasured piece of Ontario’s architectural story.
📖 Fun Fact: Beverly Cleary, beloved children’s author, lived here and later wrote about the house in her book The Luckiest Girl.
