The Astrology of World Events

Introduction: There are major problems in performing a scientific test of astrology. First of all, you have to have the correct time of birth for all of your test subjects. Then you have to collect data about major events in their lives. These problems disappear when doing the astrology of nations. You don’t need the time of birth of a nation. Only two things are required: the location (latitude and longitude) of the capital city and the exact time of a major astronomical event, such as the conjunction opposition, or square between two planets (angles of 0, 90, or 180 degrees). That data is readily available in any ephemeris. The horoscope charts are easily constructed. The next step is the timing of future events. This is done from the Precession-Corrected Solar Return and Half-Solar Return, which are derived from the horoscopes of the original event.
Methods: Once we have the horoscopes of the Astronomical events, we can predict the timing of events by using the technique of Solar Returns. Every event has a “birthday” and a “half-birthday.” By looking at the Solar Return (and Half-Solar Return) charts, standard astrological techniques can be used to predict events happening to any particular country.
Another technique is to use charts for the time the outer planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) change signs.
Results: The results gave positive correlations for both World Wars, the Great Depression, and the Mortgage Crisis of 2008 as well as all four presidential assassinations of American presidents.
Implications / Discussion: This technique can also be used to make predictions of future events for purposes of verification.
Bio: Bob Marks has a master’s degree in chemistry from the City University of New York. Until 1966, he was a chemistry instructor and thought that astrology was unscientific nonsense. Then out of curiosity, he read a book on how to do your own horoscope. It seemed to work, but being a scientist, he decided to put it to the test. He had a friend send him the birth information of people whom he had never met. For the first one, he wrote that “this woman has a sharp tongue and she can tear you apart in seconds with her sarcastic remarks.” He wrote back, “You’re right. She’s my wife.” That’s how it started. Bob has been a full-Time professional astrologer since March 1981 and producer and host of Astrology Now on Manhattan Cable TV from 1979 to 2010, the longest-running astrology show on television. He published a book review of Astrology off the Beaten Track in the Journal of Scientific Exploration, 23(4).
