THE ARTS FOR HUMAN FLOURISHING - Katherine Cotter
Throughout history, arts and culture have helped people feel connected to each other, experience a deep sense of belonging to their communities, and enhance their own, individual well-being. This talk will discuss recent research examining the multitude of ways in which arts engagement can enhance our human flourishing. Dr. Katherine N. Cotter is associate director of research with the humanities and human flourishing project team in the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania. In her research, she studies topics related to music, aesthetic experiences, and creativity and personality, with an emphasis on what these phenomena look like in our everyday lives. She received her Ph.D. in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2020.
