In today's world, we are often pushed by hustle culture and society to fill every moment of our day and every space in our calendar with "productivity". The grind is often difficult to escape from, especially when social media heavily promotes this idea of constantly doing something to "get ahead." But as a creative writer, I can attest to the fact that I would not be as creative as I am now, or probably have written any of my books if I'd filled every spare moment of my day with to-do lists. Now, there's nothing wrong with to-do lists, but it's also important to give ourselves the space we need to just BE...so often that place is where the most beautiful of creative ideas flow from! I like to call this concept "mental minimalism". I strongly believe that minimalism isn't just about cleaning out our closets, or giving away a bunch of our belongings...minimalism, at its core, is actually there to aid us in maximizing the things that really matter in our lives, and for me, the ability to create is something that I cherish, something that I want to create more space for in my life. I don't call myself an author because I don’t believe in labels.
I believe that story is art - that it's sacred, and that it is and has always been a force that changes and shapes our world. That's why I write, and that's why I create videos (even co-produced an environmental film). I consider the world my home, and enjoy submerging in unique cultures nearly as much as I love submerging in the ocean and riding the waves. I am the author of the young adult urban fantasy series The Blood Race, and am currently working on several new series's.
