When the Roman legions departed from the shores of Britain in the year 410 , never to return, they left behind more than just ruins—they left a legacy. In their wake, a distinct Romano-British culture emerged, shaped by the Roman introduction of advanced agriculture, urban planning, industrial craftsmanship, and monumental architecture. This culture blossomed in the province of Britannia, a unique fusion of Roman sophistication and the ancient Celtic traditions of the native Britons.
Yet, not long after Rome’s departure, waves of invaders arrived from across the North Sea would arrive on Britannia's shores. The Angles, Saxons, and Jutes—tribes from what is now Germany and Denmark—descended upon the weakened land. Within a generation, they had seized control of much of Britannia, pushing the Romano-British people to the outskirts of the land. Many were killed or enslaved; others fled westward, seeking refuge from the relentless advance.
From this chaos rose a new order. Kingdoms such as Deira, Bernicia, Mercia, Wessex, Kent, and East Anglia took root, marking the birth of what would one day become England. This is the tale of the warriors, kings & heathen seafarers who crossed stormy waters to conquer and settle a foreign land. These raiders would not only take the land—they would make it their own, ruling over it for more than five hundred years until the Norman invasion of 1066.

![The Greatest Viking King | Harald Hardrada
Harald Hardrada, remembered as perhaps the most war like viking King in history, stands immortalized in sagas and chronicles alike. To many, Harald was a legendary warrior-king, a hero of unparalleled ferocity and renown; to others, the most reviled of villains. His name, Hardrada, meaning stern counsel or hard ruler, was just one of his fearsome epithets.
Haralds life was a tapestry woven with blood and thunder, his first battle fought at the tender age of fifteen. His sword saw action across the known world—from the bitterly cold realms of Scandinavia to the sun-baked coasts of the Mediterranean, from the ancient lands of Asia Minor and Sicily to the sacred Holy Land, and from the Balkans to the great city of Constantinople, Harald had seen most of the known world with his own eyes, finally clashing in the fields of England. The words of the chronicler Adam of Bremen refer to harald as a cold blooded war lord:
In Norway great events took place at that time; King Harald surpassed all the madness of tyrants in his savage wildness. Many churches were destroyed by that man; many Christians were tortured to death by him. But he was a mighty man and renowned for the victories he had previously won in many wars with barbarians in Greece and in the Scythian regions. After he came into his fatherland, however, he never ceased from warfare; he was the thunderbolt of the north, a pestilence to all…
Today, Harald is revered for his warrior spirit, his saga echoing the grandeur of epic fantasy tales except the life of this man was very real. His legacy is one of glory, victory, and conquest, yet his end would also mark the twilight of an era when Vikings cast a long shadow of terror across the world. This is the epic story of Harald Hardrada.

![Who Was England’s Greatest King?
In the long and violent history of England, a few kings rose above all others—rulers whose ambition, strength, and vision shaped the nation forever. This video explores the lives of Æthelstan, William the Conqueror, and Edward Longshanks—three of the greatest and most powerful English kings to ever rule.
Æthelstan, the first true King of England, forged a unified realm from warring kingdoms and secured his dominance at the legendary Battle of Brunanburh. William the Conqueror reshaped England through fire and steel, winning the throne in 1066 and transforming the country with Norman rule. And Edward Longshanks, the “Hammer of the Scots,” was a relentless warrior king whose campaigns and authority left a lasting mark on Britain.
From unification to conquest to ruthless expansion, these kings defined what it meant to rule England. But who among them was truly the greatest? And what legacy did they leave behind?
This is the story of power, conquest, and the making of a kingdom.
