The Alfaguara (Blue Whale) Project strives to guarantee the long-term existence of endangered blue whales in one of the most important feeding grounds for the species in the southern hemisphere. The project also promotes the development of sustainable, community-based marine ecotourism and the effective conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems of Chiloe Island in southern Chile.
The Alfaguara (Blue Whale) Project has been internationally recognized for its contribution to the scientific knowledge of the species. In addition to Pacific Whale Foundation, project sponsors and supporters include Marisla Foundation, Global Greengrants Fund, Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, Cetacean Society International, and the Chilean Navy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
