MINNEAPOLIS - A weekend winter storm caused havoc early Saturday into Sunday morning for much of Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro. Hazardous travel conditions continue, and plow crews were even pulled from rotation late Saturday. Bitter cold has replaced the precipitation Sunday, wand ind chills can reach up to -40 below. Blowing snow and drifting is also a concern.
SNOW TOTALS
17.1 inches of snow were recorded in the Twin Cities metro on Dec. 9 and 10 -- the 5th highest all-time snowfall for Minneapolis. A few suburbs, including Shakopee and Oakdale, recorded 21 or more inches. Scroll down to view all-time Top 10 .
ROAD PROBLEMS
Hennepin County pulled all of its snow plows off the road around 3 p.m. Saturday, after 13 hours on the roads with little headway. A few plows stayed out to plow routes to hospitals, and the fleet was back on the roads at 2 a.m. Sunday.
Interstate 90 was closed between South Dakota and Albert Lea, Minn due to visibility concerns and Interstate 94 was closed between Hudson, Wis. and Tomah, Wis. Both highways were reopened to traffic on Sunday.
SATURDAY CRASHES + SPINOUTS
Saturday., the Minnesota State Patrol reported 729 vehicles off the road statewide (472 in the metro), 157 crashes (120 in metro), 17 injury crashes (11 in metro) and no fatal crashes.
