The new M6 Mac mini is here, but with a starting price of £899 in the UK, I think we may have just lost one of the best things about the Mac mini.
When I bought my M4 Mac mini, it cost £599. At that price, it was incredibly easy to recommend. You got a remarkably capable Mac with 16GB of unified memory that could handle everyday computing, photo editing, video editing and plenty of creator workloads without spending anywhere near £1,000.
The M6 Mac mini is undoubtedly more powerful, but going from £599 to £899 completely changes the conversation for me.
In this video, I'm looking at what's changed with the M6 Mac mini, why the £599 M4 represented such a great entry point into the Mac, and whether Apple still has a genuinely affordable Mac that I can recommend.
This also follows another recent conversation I had about the rising price of the iPad Air. With the next generation of iPhones approaching too, I'm starting to wonder whether we're seeing a wider change in Apple's pricing.
